My Background

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart
as working for the Lord, not for man.
Colossians 3:23

After being raised in a suburb of Minneapolis, graduating from Drake, then living in Phoenix for nine years, I returned to Des Moines in 2005.

I joined New York Life in 2010. After 10 years working as an independent agent, I wanted the opportunity to affiliate myself with a company that made it easy for other people to do what was right, and more importantly, made it easy for me to do right by them.

I live in West Des Moines with my amazing wife, Chrissy, and our two sons.  We are active members at Lutheran Church of Hope, where Chrissy serves on the worship team and with VBS and I serve with the hospitality ministry and help organize the Connecting Faith + Work ministry.  In addition, we both serve on the Special Events Team at the church.

Since 2007, I’ve served as the tournament director for Maddy Cunningham’s Classic Volleyball Tournament, which has raised over $206,000 for Children’s Cancer Connection.

On a professional level, in addition to my 18 years of experience in the financial services industry, I hold a Finance degree from Drake University and am a graduate of New York Life's Top ranked1 training program, NYLIC University. Since joining New York Life in 2010, I have qualified for Executive Council in every year that I've been eleigible. In 2017 and 2018, I was honored to qualify as a member of the  MDRT, which recognizes the top 5% of agents worldwide.  MDRT membership is recognized internationally as the standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.

Of course, my background isn't all that really matters. To be the best possible agent, I've found that getting to know my client's unique goals and objectives for their family's or business's future is the most important step.  Then, based on what those objectives, I help my clients to develop a customized plan to reach their objectives and work with them to implement, manage and adapt their plan as time progresses.

For example, I can introduce you to some ways to help protect your family's lifestyle and future; or prepare for major financial events such as paying for college, saving for retirement, or caring for an aging relative.

I can also work with your business to attract and retain key employees, protect your business from the loss of a key employee or owner, and help structure efficient exit and succession strategies.

I am a licensed agent to sell insurance through the New York Life Insurance Company and a registered representative through NYLIFE Securities, LLC.  I am also licensed to sell insurance through various other independent unaffiliated insurance companies.

Neither New York life Insurance Company, nor its agents, provides tax, legal or accounting advice. Please consult your own tax, legal, or accounting professionals before making any decisions.

1NYLIC University was honored in Training Magazine's list of Top 125 corporate learning programs in 2012 and 2013.

2Awarded by New York Life Insurance for production.
